I believe in the Law of Diminishing Returns: the more you have of something, the less enjoyment you get out of obtaining more of it.

While making money might be an all-consuming passion during one's first years in the workforce, that desire may diminish as one accumulates wealth over the years.  For example, a fresh grad may be extremely happy making a hundred grand a year in a job that requires a hundred hours of work a week.  However, if that same pay is offered to Bill Gates, I am sure he will turn it down if it involves anything more time-consuming than taking a shower.

Of course, one can argue that there are always greedy people out there who simply want more and more money.  That is why I believe there is no one correct answer to the question as to whether chasing after money is good or bad.  It is a matter of choice.

A particularly interesting advertisement is to be found at the bus stops in Manhattan.

It says: "People spend all their youth chasing money, and spend all their money chasing youth."

Ah, the irony of life.
