Thoughts on the Market
-
Go placidly amid the calls to buy and sell and remember
what peace there may be in not trading.
-
As far as possible without being gullible be on good
terms with your broker.
-
Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to
others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their hot tips.
-
Avoid loud and aggressive StockTalkers; they are vexatious
to the spirit.
-
If you compare yourself with others you may become
vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser investors than
yourself.
-
Enjoy your gains as well as learn from your losses.
-
Keep interested in your job, however humble; it is
a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
-
Exercise caution when listening to rumours, for the
world is full of trickery.
-
But let this not blind you to what good stocks there
are.
-
Many persons strive to make money.
-
But everywhere there are those who bought wrongly.
-
Be yourself.
-
Especially do not feign insider information.
-
Neither be cynical about the government, for in the
face of all aridity and disappointment they'll probably do The Right Thing.
-
Take kindly the counsel of oldman, who has gracefully
surrendered the things of youth to set up this board.
-
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden
misfortune.
-
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
-
Many fears are born of rumours and analysts' reports.
-
Beyond a wholesome discipline be gentle with yourself.
-
You are a player no less than the brokers and analysts.
-
You have a right to be here.
-
And whether it is clear to you or not, no doubt the
market is unfolding as it should.
-
Therefore be at peace with your banker, whatever you
owe him, and whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion
of StockTalk, keep peace with your soul.
-
With all its sham and drudgery and broken dreams it
is still a bull market for now.
-
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
-
And hopefully make some money.
